Default Track day insurance?

Will insurance cover a crash on a track with a club or on the drag strip? If not does the club have (quattro club) insurance or can you buy track day insurance?

Default Totally depends on the event, and your insurance policy (read it).

In the state of PA for example, we are not covered by regular automobile insurance at a racing venue. Driver's education events (Audi Club) aren't racing venue's, nevertheless, insurance companies don't like to hear you've been tracking your car, so if they pay out damages for an incident at the track, that may be the last time that every happens (cancellation, or they may make you sign a waiver). You really need to read your insurance policy to see exactly what it states about this sort of thing, and you need to match that up agaist the particular event you are attending.

Track insurance isn't cheap, and often involves very high deductibles (for obvious reasons). You can get it if you want...so a search to see if you can come up with a few recommendations on companies to go with. Search some of the Porsche forums as well...I'm sure this is covered in more detail and more often over there.

Default Until recently it was covered under my insurance, but

as of July 2003 it is excluded:

"The following exclusions have been added:

(13) loss or damage arising out of participation in a prearranged, organized, or spontaneous:

(a) racing contest;
(b) speed contest; or
(c) use of an auto at a track or course designed or used for racing or high performance driving, or in practice or preparation for any contest or use of this type."

They've also excluded any racing mods (nitrous, roll cages, air intake modifications), and limited coverage of 'custom parts' to $1000.

Default Read your policy language, really depends on the carrier.

More than likly it isent covered. However, its tecincaly not "Racing" in the classic senses of the insurance term. "Racing" usually only applies to street racing. Your best bet is to call your agent and ask them, they know the language of the policy!
