Default Turbo Replace vs. Rebuild

It's time to replace my turbos. Here are my options: replace k03s $650 ea., rebuild k03s $300-$650 ea., or rebuild k03s with k04 upgrade $1050 ea.

I've been advised to not upgrade to k04s (which uses the same housing, so pipes, heads, etc. don't need to be upgraded????), why is this a bad idea?

I am also adding Revo or another software upgrade, I don't know how much of a factor this is.

Has anyone had problems with rebuilt k03s, or offer any advice for my decision?

Default You should consider going with k03/k24 hybrids.

You will need upgraded blow-off valves to run these though. I would suggest a TAP chip to accompany this set-up. You will not be disappointed in the performance. Cheers!

New hoses, heads, fuel system... Do I need all this stuff with the rebuilt k03s with k04 upgrades?

Default 2nd. It may be cheaper in the long run.

If the rebuilt turbos fail, then you will have to pull the engine again and replace the turbos again. At that point, you've spent a good bit more money and had way more hassle.

Even if all you did was k04s and inlets, I still like that option over all the others you listed

Default you only need new inlets and upgraded clutch

Some people even cut the K03 inlets and use a silicon hose to connect the inlet to the K04's.

Fueling is not required, but it would gain you more power.

Blow-off valves, about $100 ea.? Is that all?

What is the difference between k03/k04 and k03/k24 hybrids?

Thanks for your help!

Default Larger compressor wheel and more power.

HKS makes some good blow-off valves that are suitable for this application. The fuel pump from a B5A4 will help solve all the fuel delivery problems you may incure with this monster set-up. I would also consider going with at least a 4" single exhaust system with this upgrade route.
