Turbo Whistle

Turbo Whistle
Have a turbo whistle, sounds like whheeew. Sounds like apolice car usually when hitting the gas, or in excessive speed. Before I go to dealer I want to do some research and see if it is a common problem.

sounds like normal...
So long as your performance doesn't worsen or the noise increase with time, don't worry about it. I try to best describe it as kind of like "your passenger whistling a motorcycle cop siren". It seems loudest when the engine is cold, right? If this is it, you should be o.k. Some S4's have it, some never did, some develop it after time. I think a lot of dealers are in the dark about it as they may not have heard it before either and just assume the turbos blown because they can't find anything that's wrong even though there is no performance problems. If you really have a turbo problem, it will get worse and the turbo will fail, rest assured.

Re: Maybe a loose hose...if you can hear the turbos at factory pressure.
Had same issue on the right Turbo. Took it to the dealer and they tested it against another S4 and also ran a scan. No problem found. Took it to another dealer and they confirmed that it is OK. It does sound like a loud whistle. my 2 cents.

What about your neighbor's S4? Does it? Not every car has to do something for it to be normal.
Mine didn't make it the day I drove it home, but does now. Has my performance slipped one bit? No. Normal can be two different things. Some people's S4's have done this since the day they drove them off the lot and if they rode in a car that didn't make that noise would quickly respond that their car's not normal because they didn't make that neat-o motorcycle siren sound in the low RPM's (~1800-3000RPM's) coming from the turbos.
