Vacuum Hose causing misfire codes ? recall ?
A friend of mine is in training at an Audi dealership and told me that a vacuum hose had been recalled for either ripping or burning/melting prior to 20k miles. I have had a cylinder #5 misfire and been to the dealer. Replaced injector #5 but got the code again. Chipped (APR EMCS) 2001 S4. Any thoughts ? BTW I am trying to get this friend to order me a VAG cable so that I can do some iPAQ based data collection.

Re: Vacuum Hose causing misfire codes ? recall ?
the only hose that has been teched is the charge pressure y hose at the throttle housing on early 2.7's.a misfire can be anything[plug/coil,etc].check the y hose[new type a little better than the old version but not by much, check the plug for how cylinder is running[lean/rich]first for a starting point.if lean[most likely]check for a loose intake, air leak,[eliminate a injector as it's been replaced],vacuum leak,by-pass valve, airflow meter beginning to puke[bosch units].if plug is carbon bridged, cylinder is really lean.if running rich, most likely ignition problem

Re: VAG with iPAQ?!
It should be fairly easy to port map the USB docking port to the 9 pin serial connector on the end of the VAG cable. The pocket 2002 OS is fairly open to developers and I have already heard of rumors of people adapting VAG tools to this. With a 206MHz processor it should be able to keep up with the data rates for moderate captures. A naked iPAQ shoudl be able to interface with the help of an off the shelf USB-serial adapter. I will post again when I have it working.
