Default Very impressed with my Tom Tom Go 300

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/3779/dcp_0079.jpg">

I don't have the skillz to put in the new RNS-E(?) DVD-based Nav+, and I don't like how that unit doesn't really fit into the dashboard perfectly.

Anyway, I opted for the portability of a Tom Tom Go 300. I had bought a Magellan Roadmate 300 but returned it after being far more impressed with the TT 300's better satellite reception, lithium ion battery (the Magellan has no battery), and the entire U.S. on one included SD-card (the Magellan requires copying maps from a CD-Rom).

The TT 300 also has a sturdy windshield mount to die for. It has a separate power jack (which I've hardwired to my fusebox) to facilitate easy unclipping of the GPS unit from the mount without having to fuss with wires.

While I haven't tested the Garmin, I would say the TT 300 is the best GPS unit in the $500-600 range, notwithstanding its TThuper gay name.

Default You didn't like the way the RNS-E fit so you strapped a huge GPS to your window?

NOt trying to be an *** but it seemed that the RNS would have looked better...I guess you can remove it though. Good price too.

700 is same size, just has a hard drive and better processor. I don't think they're that big.

Default Yeah, the Tom Tom is way cheaper and probably more intuitive and user friendly. Plus (more)

it's portable.

Moreover, I've got it mounted on the passenger side (as you can see in my mirror), so I don't have to constantly see it. It's very nice to glance at it though, and it's just like glancing into my rearview mirror.

Doesn't bother me the least, whereas the poor fit of the RNS-E would bother me.

Default I used the Magellan 700 this weekend an loved it!

I could be wrong, since I've never seen the TT300 in person, but the 700 looked bigger, its more like a rectangle. The unit was excellent!

I would still rather have in dash nav+ but if you didnt want all the hassle, you will not be dissapointed with the 700 that I used, I will get exact model later.

Default I think you're talking about a totally different unit. He's talking about the TOM TOM 700. You're

talking about the Magellan Roadmate 700 by Thales. Totally different. Yes, the Roadmate is rectangular and flat. The TT is cubish.

Tom Tom named their models (300 and 700) to go after Magellan. I'd say there's a pretty good case of tradename infringement going on, and your confusion is a case in point. :-)
