Weekend Races -- My MTM Stage III S4 vs My 800hp T66 Supra vs 400 hp RX7

Well I decided to see how my new MTM Stage 3 S4 would hold up against my 800 hp T66 Supra. The Supra has a fully built engine with race cams and a huge 850 cc fuel system. I decided to drive my S4 and had my buddy who brought his 400 hp RX7 over drive the Supra.

We decided to race from 5mph to 100mph so not to put too much tear on the clutches.

Well no suprise but the Supra toasted the S4 but it was only by about 6 cars at 100mph when the Supra slowed. The S4 was only about 2-3 cars back until I hit 3rd gear and could feel the S4 begin to wheeze over 4.5k rpms.

The Supra was also having serious traction problems in 1-2nd gear so it may have been worse.

Anyways the next race was me driving the Supra and my friend driving his RX7...again from 5mph I instantly had 2 cars on the RX7 then held about 3-4 all the way to 100mph and was still moving away at a good rate. The RX7 was running 12 psi while the Supra was running 18 psi. The RX7 has a ported rotor and has beaten 405hp Z06s by ~1 car length on 2 occasions. It dynoed 330 rwhp @ 12psi at 2750 lbs.

So you guessed it the next race was me driving the S4 and my buddy driving his RX7. We both punched it at 5 mph and I held 1/2 car length all the way to 3rd gear and by the top of 3rd the RX7 had 2 car lengths on me...not that bad and was slowly pulling away. I was certaintly happy given the car still has stock ICs and stock turbo's.

I also destroyed a Camero SS and Mustang 4.6 V8 this weekend in the S4 by about 4-5 and 7-8 cars and believe it should run dead even with a 385 hp Z06. The S4 is definitely a sleeper!

sweet! except I doubt the S will run dead even with the Z06

Z06 has 405hp not 385. That's awesome that the S4 hangs that close to the supra though. Especially from a 5mph roll. The S4 sucks from a 5mph roll. you need to take advantage of the quattro launch.

Nice write up. What does stage 3 involve from MTM? Please list your mods. Thanks.

Re: sweet! except I doubt the S will run dead even with the Z06

the pre 2002 Zo6 has 385 hp/ 385 lb/ft. whereas the '02 Z06 has 405hp.

My Supra ran 10.6@135mph at 700rwhp on 28 psi and puts down 599 rwhp at 20 psi.

My S4 has the 18 psi MTM chip, down pipes, high flow cats, cat back, Stop tech brake package, upgraded plugs, 5 bar fuel pressure regulator, and a K&N filter.

I have no doubt this car is a high 12 sec car and the 385 Z06s run 12.7s.

Also my buddies RX ran a 12.1@118

Re: sweet! except I doubt the S will run dead even with the Z06

sorry, my bad about the 385 i didn't know, but you have to remember that the corvette weighs over 500lbs less than the S4, and your car probably has about 350hp. I dunno, it would probably be a pretty good race and I would love to see you kick one's ass. So if you ever do, make sure you get it on video so I can see it :-)
Peace!

yea, I'm with ya :) The 385 HP versions still pull low 12s easy.
