Went to Bandimere Friday
On Friday Bandimere was hosting the Anual CO Race Days and my neighbor had an extra slot that he offered to me. I decided to take the B5 S4 as it was the lightest and fastest of the 2 S4's. This was my first time ever doing 1/4mile runs at a track and my first time trying to really drive the car hard. Its only mods are GIAC chip and AWE Twin2 cat-back exhaust. I was running on Falken Z-rated tires and didn't take anything out fo the car to save weight, had the spare and even a full tank of fuel. I did add a bottle of Gumont Octane Boost to the fuel because I was worried that the stock intercoolers would heat soak with repeated runs and lead to predetonation.
The car did great and with a bit of advice from Randy @ Autobahn Premiere Service (who recently rebuilt the tranny w/ upgraded syncros) on the best shift point I managed to go from running a 20.9 ET @ 83.59mph on my first attempt to laying down a 14.6 ET @ 93.95mph on my 7th run. The main thing that got me down to a 14.6 on the last run was I shifted over to a less "sticky" part of the staging line and managed to get a good launch w/o bogging down once the AWD got its grip on. I was actually so surprised by this that I shifted into 2nd almost 1000rpm late. I'm fairly certain that I could have droped another 1 or 2 tenths off but after pulling 7 runs I decided I'd had my fun and didn't want to risk breaking anything. I'm taking the car back to Randy tomorrow for a post race day inspection and oil change.
Mostly took vids and sorry for the low quality, we forgot to charge the actual video camera and had to rely on my camera to take them. The long range picture quality is horrible.
My 6th run, 15.183 ET @ 93.58mph. That Vette finally caught me at the end, he ran a 14.6 @ 102.89mph.
My 7th run, 14.690 ET @ 93.95mph.
Here is a pic of the truck my neighbor ran, 80's S-10 w/ 350 V8 and TH350 transmission. His best time was a 13.09.
Check out the bug in the right lane. it was running low 12's
Colin (my son) peaking through the rear window of my truck. he had a blast at the races and was yelling back at the loud American V8's when they were warming their tires. All in all it was a great day.
Yeah, my first run ever in a car I almost never drive. I had a horrible launch and I was shifting way high. The CEL also came on in 3rd and it sputtered. Didn't happen the rest of the day. My next run was 15.3.
Run 1: Run 2: Run 7:
R/T: .317 .725 .420
60': 7.107 2.100 2.019
330: 11.307 6.318 6.093
1/8: 15.040 9.815 9.437
MPH: 65.32 70.18 74.31
1000: 18.275 12.812 12.282
ET: 20.989 15.316 14.960
MPH: 83.59 90.57 93.95
I made a bit of an improvement between the first and second run, and by the 7th run I was really getting the hag of it. I could have kept going too, but I didn't want to risk anything happeneing to the car. 7 times down Bandimere is quite a bit in one day for my wife's expensive to repair daily driver. I'f I'd taken my UrS4 down I wouldn't have worried as much and probably ran it a lot more.
What kind of times are you guys getting? I was told my 15.2 @ 93.84 was very respectable for a chipped S4 at Bandimere (altitude up here is a bit on the high side) but then I also managed to knock another 6 tenths off of that.

And why is everyone so rude? We all make mistakes, yes? And i thought this was about cars we love, not egos.
