Went to a drag strip for the first time, had a blast but wanted some help
I did 8 runs and got consistantly better each time until the last three runs. On those I couldn't get the car to hook up and it would do a jerky burn-out which dropped my 60' times and just felt rough on the car. What can I do to improve traction? Is there anything like airing down the tires or do I just need bigger rubber? Do the tracks just get slippery with debris over time?
The second question I had was when to shift. I ran it to redline every time, is it beter to shift sooner?
Third, is it just me or is 3rd really long on the car? I would blow through the first two gears and then sit in third almost to the end. I noticed that other cars were going 4th and 5th and making up ground on me in that section.
Lastly, how to shift. I really enjoyed talking with everyone there and one guy I was keeping tabs with mentioned that I should "power shift" from 2nd to third to help with my long runs in that gear. Basicly, don't lift off the gas and just make a quick clutch-slam-release shift. Is this true. I shift pretty damn fast, but the idea of not coming off the gas just kinda freaks me out!
Had a total blast for a newbie! I would love to pull on some of your knowledge to get even better.

No joke. Think about it, you are at redline in 2nd, throw the clutch in with the pedal on the floor?
oof, makes me cringe just thinking about it.
and yes, we have a very long 3rd gear.

Yea, um, yea that's how you drive a rental, or ex-girlfriends car. Not an S4! You're
going to blow many of expensive parts.
Lesson # 1, never listen to a guy that drives a Honda that cost less than just your tranny. My $.02

Traction shouldn't really be an issue. Let me guess, you're dropping the clutch @
6000 rpms at the start? As far as shift points go. This is just me (keep in mind I have a Tip, but have had many rowers) but I would red-line 1st, then 2nd, and probably go to fourth around 5500/6000rpms out of third. Now this is just an assumption from driving my car and noticing where I start to fall off the power curve, and also looking at many people's runs, FATS, and other various "charts"
