Default If in CA, do TAKE chains, but NEVER use them.

Some caltrans / chp have asked to show chains at check point, hinting at R3 condition to come. I dunno...had chains for another car that I take along sometimes if the weather looks treacherous.

If you were ever to need chains on a M+S tire-d quattro, it would be due to beauracracy . I've driven through some quite serious snow in Tahoe... ..amazing traction.

wife's newer XC90 is a POS in this regard...

Default yupperz. But, you're lower so use caution for clearance.

Default I would never put chains on this car, get good snow tires

I fly over Snoqualamie Pass in WA in sh!tty conditions almost every week during the winter and the car grips like a champ, chains would only screw up the car. Blizzaks got i have.
