What is the issue with replacing the rear main seal that I don't know about? I saw 2 posts here
about it last week, & somebody posted that they wouldn't change it if it wasn't leaking. Nobody specified, however what's so tricky about it. I replaced mine, it wasn't difficult but I don't know what problems potentially exist about doing it, & I really don't want to find out the hard way when I start her up for the first time, & immediately have to pull the motor again.
TIA.
TIA.

The rubber sealing flange is angled toward the crankshaft. There have been people/shops who have
pushed the sealing flange the opposite way (Away from the block of the motor) this is incorrect and promotes the seal to leak. The flange is designed to promote sealing when positive oil pressure is applied to it.

Yep. My shop put it on incorrectly the first time. It leaked immediately and then he had to pull
the tranny and do it over with a new main seal since he creased the first one.

Cool, Thanks to both you and Roque for the info. Now, can anyone verify if it's in correctly from

this picture? Thank you very much if you can. It may save me 4 or 5 days of unnecessary time if I don't have to pull the clutch/flywheel off, since noone locally stocks the PP or flywheel bolts. TIA, again.

Quite a bit. I did mine myself, & I already had the motor out of the car. Tranny removal from
under the car has got to be a HUGE PITA, although I've never done it.

Unfortunately from that picture you cannot see the inner rubber seal so its impossible to say. You
would have had to intentionally push the seal the opposite way to install it incorrectly. If you simply installed the part, chances are you are just fine. Most people who have had problems brought it upon themselves by adjusting the seal (pulling it outward) when no adjustment is necessary.
