what tools do i need to install an exhaust?
#2
I guess it depends...
Number one, whatever clamp the new exhaust uses, you'll need that tool/socket/etc.
As for the stock components, you need a socket to get the stock clamps off. I *think* it's 17mm.
Also, I removed the hangers when I installed mine because the stock exhaust has end stops on the hangers to keep it from falling off (i guess), and it's a pain to remove the exhaust from the rubber hanger when the car is on jack stands.
I guess if you doused it in some lubricant of choice, you might be able to wrestle off the exhaust from the rubber hangers without removing the hangers from the car.
Either way, it worked for me.
To remove the hangers, you need a socket set (not sure which size), and a torx set (fairly large).
I also used a fair amount of isopropyl as lubricant to remove the stock exhaust from the hangers and add the new exhaust to the hangers.
Other than that, I used my floor jack to support the downpipes rather than have them hang on their own (I wasn't sure if it was bad to have them hanging, so I stuck the jack under them).
I made use of my breaker bar to get the stock clamps loose, but that's cuase i have a breaker bar and I'm lazy. Nice, but not necessary.
I also noticed that the clamps that came with my exhaust required deep sockets to clear the bolt, the stock ones required only standard socket depth.
FWIW...
