What would be involved with doing a 1.8T swap into a B5 S4?
Say one had a B5 S4 with a blown engine, and wanted to down-grade to a 1.8T out of say an A4 or B5 Passat. Is this at all feasible? Could the 1.8T mate up with the 6-speed tranny? What ECUs and whatnot would be involved?

Sell the S4 to someone who wants it, and buy an A4 with a 1.8T. It'll cost you less, and you won't ruin an S4.

I'd be interested in your blown motor as a mock up, if you want to sell it.

rebuild or get rid of it altogether. i'm sure you can get yours rebuilt for the cost of doing the conversion.

What would be required to do that? A complete lack of respect for the car. You probably could sell a broken S4 for what you could buy a working A4.
|
You sold yours just to pick up another? ha I'd possibly be interested in the engine if you really do this. And of course, I'm local.

haha - I think the other guys pretty much covered it. I mean, it could be kind of an interesting project, but I really don't see the point given that the A4s are so readily available.
Also, the 6spd tranny will not bolt up to the 1.8t without major modifications. If you want to do a swap then go for something crazy. Has anyone ever tried dropping a 3.0L from a Supra into a B5? |
Geez guys I was just curious. I have (recently) owned 3 B5 S4s, including the Stage3 car on OEM R8 wheels that got posted around for a while. I just saw one with a blown engine and was wondering if it was a massive project (which it seems like it is). No one has more VAG respect than I.

Is the car local? if you're not going to grab it, I may be interested. What color?
