Default They won't leak
you get actual requested boost instead of losing a lb or 2 due to leaky bosch valves. Improved throttle response and no stuttering when you release your foot off the throttle. Maybe a couple of more but i don't have them.

Do most people just switch them out when taking the car in for service?

Default I would, just to be sure AOA doesn't decide to
blame turbo failures on a better part than the pos it replaces.
