Default NASA Racer was getting 14.2's with his chipped tip, so...

...unless the stock six-speed driver drove really, really well, the tip would probably win more consistently; remember, 14.1 is the *best* time the car mags got (I don't think they average their results, which imo they should)...

A chipped six-speed would have the edge, however...

Default Re: NASA Racer was getting 14.2's with his chipped tip, so...

I agree that out of ten races the chipped Tip should win a majority. I saw NasaRAcer run the 14.2. If the 6 speed doesn't get the launch of a lifetime, the tip will beat it. Even with the best launch it would be dang close(better driver would win). That day at the track it was so sticky(Pomona) that the S4's had trouble launching. They were bogging at the start. THen BlownS4(stick) ran a 13.8? (modified). And that 14.2 Nasa ran was in 88 to 90 degree weather. I also know of a A6 2.7T Tip that runs 14.3's to low 14.4's. Thats even in the ballpark of a 6 speed S4.

Default Don't forget, car mags usually test relatively virgin cars...

cars get faster after a good breaking in.

Default I believe my car has another tenth in cooler weather...

the driving difference feels significant, the 6-speed REALLY pulls in 1st and 2nd compared to the 5-speed tip but the tip doesn't have to shift to 4th in the 1/4 and the extra 50hp really comes alive in the second half of the track. I got 100.22mph in the 14.2 run.

Default do you consistently run 14.2?

I know that this is your best run, but do you generally run around 14.4?

Default Here's the answer (longish)...

the first time I went to the drags I did two 14.4's but it was 100+ degrees.

The second time I ran a 14.4 but then did a 14.2...it was somewhat cooler and I was shifting at a little lower RPM. I had a perfect spool-up going on the torque converter but had to back off because they held us staged so long...I think this run would have been a bit quicker though.

I wanted to try the car at a sea-level dragstrip on a cooler day but the rest of my life has seriously got in my way. I believe the car capible of 14.1 in 70 degrees or cooler at sea level.

Due to the low number of runs, there is also some time to be gained with where you shift the tip and if you just leave it in D or manually shift it so that experimentation is worth exploring.

So I would say it SHOULD be a consistent thing but I've only done 5 runs total and 4 of them were low 14.4's...high temperature and density altitude seriously hurt performance so I really don't think any runs in 100+ degrees (drag day 1) or 88+ degrees (drag day two) are indicitive of what the car is ultimately capible of with just the chips.

Default I have raced my friends APR chipped Tip with my stock ECM, asn WHile it was close, I never lost...

I turn 13.95-14.05 at 99-100 mph stock all day long. My buddies chipped car, beleive it or not, came out of the hole at 2.050 (.01 behond me), but the difference is in the gearing, and by track end, I was always 2-3 car lenghts ahead, pulling gradually all the way down the track.

We did this 6-8 times in one night.
