What's the most spring rate spread you can make through tire pressure adjustments? -->

If a suspension setup is producing slight understeer with a spring rate that has a spread of 60 lbs (say 660 front / 600 rear) and you want to dial out the understeer...assuming you want to keep all other aspects (tires, alignment, sway bars etc) the same, how much of an impact can tire pressure alone have on setup?

In other words, without changing anything else, can pressure alone dial a slight understeer situation?

(Can you tell I don't track the car? I don't have the ability to adequately describe what I am trying to determine...sorry)

A few pounds in the front really help my very slight understeer at a track event.

That was an increase by a few pounds, 2 pounds if I recall

Default The question was articulated perfectly...

It's a good question. I'm curious to see if anyone has a good answer.

My guess is the effective change would be 25-50 lbs in spring rate. So if you tweaked both the back and front, you could effect up to a 50-100 change in spring rate differential. That's just my guess.

Default I'm trying to make up the difference in spring rates for two reasons- ->

my MTM/Eibachs + Bilsteins are now exhibiting a bit of understeer with the new Intrax bars.

Spring rate is 460f/400r.

More importantly, I am debating between a set Vogtland CO's or TrackSports. The Vogtlands have a spring rate of 670f/630r...also 60lbs.

If I can't tune the understeer out, it would eliminate the option of the Vogtlands...so if I can tune it out of the MTM/Eibachs, I likely can tune it out of the Vogtlands...

Does that make sense?

Default if you're running both front and rear intrax bars, put an OEM smaller front on...

but why trade off one kit that doesn't let you run more rear spring for another kit that doesn't let you run more rear spring.

Get the STaSIS Track Sport kit and then you can add rear spring until your balance is happy.

Default I don't think you'll achieve what you want with air pressures.

Air pressures should be used for fine tuning. If you feel significant understeer in street driving, odds are it will feel more than significant if you drive aggressively. Get the suspension bits ironed out (shocks/springs/rollbars), then screw around with the air pressures to find what works.

Default Two reasons I can think of....

One, just about every post I have seen on Stasis setups raves about the performance, but somewhere in there it says "I still have to get the damping set correct" Or, "I am still tweaking the settings".

The lack of damping adjustment might, for some, be a hinderance, while for others, a set it and forget it approach is better.

Based on this post alone, you can probably bet on me fitting in with the set it and forget it school..

Second...the Vogtlands are a cool grande less...

That said, you make a great point..advice well taken.

And, I just put the Intrax bars in...
