Default Wheel bearing hell. Am I taking crazy pills? (long)

Ok, here is my S4 drama. I take my car in for a tire replacement & alignment because I notice my front tires are bald on the inside. They tell me that my tire rode end is shot on the driver side. I get a heavy duty one from ECS and bring it back for replacement. They put it on and as I am driving off I notice a horrible grinding, rubbing, noise coming from the PASSENGER side up front. I take it back the next day and they say that I have a bad wheel bearing. At this point I don't trust them so I go get a second opinion. They tell me the same thing, but I find it very odd that all of a sudden I have this horrible sound RIGHT after getting an alignment and tire replacement, but whatever.

I take it to the 2nd shop to get the wheel bearing done. They do it and as soon as I get it back, no difference. Same noise. I am pissed and take it back. They then tell me it is the driver side wheel bearing, so they replace that, $314. I get it back and same noise, no difference. They tell me that the passenger side wheel bearing is defective and they will replace it for free.

I feel like I got screwed into buying a driver side wheel bearing job unecessarly. I am so pissed at then guy. He also tried to tell me the rear brake pads need replacement, which they do, but that because of that, that is where all the noise is coming from. This, even though it is obvious it is coming from the front passenger side.

Am I crazy? What else could it be? Did I get ripped off? Who's skull should I thump?

Default Could just be the brake dust shield got bent and is touching the rotor.

Pretty common mistake and results in a hideous grinding noise.

Default Friend of mine got a rock stuck between the shield and rotor, and it made a horrid noise.

Rock didn't come out until he went in reverse for a bit, then went forward again. However he has A8 rotors on an A4, so the shield is very very close to the rotor...even a small rock could get caught.

Default 2nd that. After my Control arm install had a grinding noise, dust sheild had gotten bent enough to..

create a horrendous metal on metal grinding sound.

I didn't think of that, but it isn't constant. It comes and goes, sometimes louder, sometimes not
