Default When turbos fail catastrophically (white smoke), what specifically breaks?

I've seen a couple S4's at the track blow their turbos and they've generated huge clouds of white smoke.

What part of the turbo is failing? Is it a bearing or vanes on the exhaust or intake side, etc? And what causes the white smoke? I'm assuming coolant is ending up some place it shouldn't be, but where is the jacket cracking?

Thanks.

Default Any number of things, but it generally boils down to a broken shaft

And if you break a vane on either the intake or exhaust side, you will cause the shaft to have an imbalance while spinning, making it more and more likely to break... once it breaks, oil and/or coolant will end up burning (or even mixing)

Default Very nice. I guess you painted it. How come you changed it? Don't like the Silver? I caught up to

you stereo wise. I am now pushing 600 watts rms and have 3 tvs. I have a stereo comp this weekend at waterfest. When are you putting the stage 3 in for that car?
