Default why new RS4 won't be twin turbo

I always wondered why Audi isn't using a twin turbo RS6 engine setup in the new RS4. The RS6 timing belt is in the front while the new non-turbo S4 V-8 has a timing chain to the rear of the engine. I'll bet that's why they don't have room for turbos. That or they don't want to worry about "you guys" chipping the turbos under warranty.

What would keep someone from installing a RS6 engine (from salvage) into a B5 S4? Maybe get rid of the A/C condenser, etc.?

Default from what i heard is this...

the RS6 was not designed with a proper transmission. audi used an older transmission off of a euro A8 diesel or something like that, cause that was the only stock transmission that could handle the torque....

thus, why the RS6 was a tip.

Default so that means the tranny/engine bolt pattern is different?

I assumed the RS6 V-8 was very similar to the V-8 used in the S4. THe B5 6 speeds are holding up pretty well considering stage 3 has more torque than the stock RS6.

I belive that they use the B5 6 speed when they race the RS6 also, although it is prob the RS4 one.

IIRC Audi wants to prove they can build a 100+hp/liter NA engine. So 4.2L 425hp FSI V8

Default The real story on the tranny ;)

Quattro Gmbh wanted to use a DSG on the RS6 but it was not ready in time (they were WAY off). The DSG has a very hard time with high hp/tq engines, they were blowing them up in testing. They have the same problem with the Veryon and other problems, hence the HUGE delay with that car.

Audi then decieded to pull the trans from the W12 6.0 A8L and have it modified for the RS6. My intital feel of the transmisson was that they did a very good job...but as I have onwed the car and leasrned more about it....it is very clear that the trans and rear diff are the weakest points on the RS6. IMO they are both very close to their limit with the engine stock. They both could use additional cooling at a minimum. In Europe I have heard that during lenghtly high speed runs the trans and diff can develope problems due to over heating. MTM now sells extra coolers to help with this problem.

Still I really do like the car and I personally have not had any problems with the transmission...my rear diff however has developed a small humm, which will be fixed

Anyway...my 2 cents.

Default The MTM Club Sport does NOT use an RS6 engine block...

That car was built from the ground up. MTM ordered just the body stripped and built the car. They use a different block on that car due to big problems bolting the trasmission and starter motor to the RS6 block. With the RS6 block it turns out to be a mangeled mess when they are done. So MTM used a different block and built the motor as well.
