Watched (and enjoyed) Frontier House, 1900's house, 1940's house and now am enjoying Manor House but wouldn't hit something like "Joe Millionaire" with a stick.

Default because they don't rely on advertiser $$$
advertising dollars appeal to the lowest common denominator ... even the nature shows are superior to discovery channel
