I did M2's also, lots of beef and quiet w/good handling

Between those two choices I'd go with th Pilot Alpin.

which ever is the lowest price, they're about the same. I went with the M2s.

Me too. Used to have them on A4 too. They are great in dry or snow.

Default FWIW, I just asked Tirerack the same question.
They recommended the Dunlop WinterSport M2s.

Good - Though I hear the Alpins are better in deep snow, worse in dry

Default M2's: 12' of the greatest snow on earth...
12' of the greatest snow on earth (Utah powder) in the past week at Alta and the M2's kick butt. I skied all week. More traction than my 4runner with 32" Wrangler MTR's. Got to love the S4 in the snow.
