Winter Tires / Wheels

Winter Tires / Wheels
My dealership is telling me that they can put 15" wheels and 15" snow tires on my S4. Are they right?
I don't see how it could be possible with those big brake discs.
It seems most people in this forum were recommending 16" wheels but it is SO expensive at $500 US!
Please help, snow is coming here!

I don't think your dealer has any idea what they are talking about. The 16" wheels that
fit have very little clearance for the front brakes. I don't think you will find any 15" wheels that will fit.

If they can do that...
they'll be the first ever. I'll bet you were talking to a salesman, not a mechanic. The real answer is "No, 15" doesn't work. 16" is as small as you can go." The factory winter option setup, in Europe, is a set of 16" wheels with 205/55-16 snow tires. There are a limited number of alloy wheels available in 16" that fit the S4. There are still no steel wheels available, or at least none have been reported.
If you live in serious snow country, I'd strongly recommend you go 16". The stock tires are unthinkable in snow, and wide, low profile snow tires on 17" wheels are NOT the ticket for best snow performance. With 205/55-16 Pirelli 210A snow tires on my S4 last winter, the car drove right through everything I encountered in a winter's worth of skiing in the Sierras.
Snow tires and wheels may seem like a lot of money, but compare that to what you spent for the car itself. Good snow tires are a great insurance policy for winter.
