BBB5S4 Dave 06-30-2003 10:03 AM

Where can you buy M1 0W-40 in NJ? Haven't found any

Angular 06-30-2003 10:16 AM

Where to find it in Seattle area? TIA.

AUJ 06-30-2003 10:23 AM

RTFM! If you don't see it in print, it is not approved by anyone but internet wannabe engineers.

R1ce 06-30-2003 10:29 AM

I bought some at schucks, most auto parts stores should have it.

Jeff Vader - boscoj 06-30-2003 10:34 AM

Just found another producer of 5W40 . . . Shell Helix

<center><img src="http://www.shell.com/static/global/images/general/oil_products/product_shots/helix_petrol_ultra_200.jpg"></center><p><ul><li><a href="http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=lubricants&amp;FC1=&amp;FC2=%2FLe ftHandNav%3FLeftNavState%3D4&amp;FC3=%2Fglobal%2Fs hell_for_motorists%2Foils_lubricants%2Fhelix%2Fpro duct_pages%2Fpetrol_products_ga_0110.html&amp;FC4= &amp;FC

Jeff Vader - boscoj 06-30-2003 10:38 AM

MingsS4 06-30-2003 10:49 AM

Not all "manuals" are created equal...

p.s. What's wrong with wanting to be an Internet Engineer? I hear they make good money.

mpwolf 06-30-2003 10:53 AM

I was wondering when you were going to chime in. I like how you selectively refer to the manual

when it supports your argument and then choose to completely ignore it when it doesn't.

MingsS4 06-30-2003 10:56 AM

Hehe. Fixed.

Angular 06-30-2003 11:21 AM

Don't recall seeing it anywhere on the shelf before, but I'll try Schmucks. Thanks.

Laughing Gnome 06-30-2003 11:27 AM

well according to your post you must buy all your oil from the dealership............

since the dealership is the only one to supply this rare type of oil, oh since you sound like an engineer yourself, what railroad do you work for?

Bruce M 06-30-2003 11:46 AM

Must be good stuff. Ferrari Enzo requires 10W-60, 12 quarts @ $60 ea., or no warranty on $200K motor

Jeff Vader - boscoj 06-30-2003 12:01 PM

My Mom's F355 F1 uses the 5W-40 at about $15 a quart

RKA 06-30-2003 12:25 PM

Autozone stocks it.

AUJ 06-30-2003 03:45 PM

'01.5. Hard to argue with black and white even for the blind spinmasters. LOL.

AUJ 06-30-2003 03:47 PM

If you don't see 0W-40 written there, you are only deceiving yourself.

GrandPaJohn 06-30-2003 04:13 PM

Walmart has it now too.

GrandPaJohn 06-30-2003 04:20 PM

If you like 5W40, the guys on the oil forum rave about Mobil Delvac1

MingsS4 06-30-2003 04:27 PM

Oil forum? Where?

GrandPaJohn 06-30-2003 04:30 PM

AUJ 06-30-2003 04:34 PM

True, but 0W-40 is still not in print there.

Laughing Gnome 07-01-2003 05:49 AM

I wasn't the one who claimed that 0w-40 was the elixir of life was I?

MingsS4 07-01-2003 08:53 AM

Thanks. Interesting reading.

They list actual test results of various oils (data!), and I found this 66 page document containing details of the various oil specs (e.g. ACEA, ILSAC, API, MB, VW...)<ul><li><a href="http://www.ethyl.com/products/la/handbook/Crankcase.pdf">All the oil specs in one place...</a></li></ul>

AUJ 07-01-2003 09:10 AM

Hence, "If".
