Default WTF!! Hit a nice pothole on Route 3 in NJ, and have a bubble the size of a golfball in the sidewall

What to do but buy a new tire huh?
Definitely not getting RE040's

Any opinions what type I should get?? Getting 18 inch wheels this week, but what tires can fit?

Default If you want closest diameter to stock, go with 225/40R18.

However, 235/40R18 is still under 2% error, if you want a wider contact patch.

As always, the miata.net Tire Size Calculator is very handy for experimenting with potential tire upgrades.
--

Default Man, you know Jersey will do your wheels in.

My sister and her family lives there. I'll give it to you. You are a brave man to drive on 18s in Jersey......if I lived there I would do it too. What wheels are you looking at?
00 S4 Silver/Silver

Default Very interesting, a 235-40-17 is actually quite smaller, you need a 255-40-17 to stay same!

Oddly enough, a 255-40-17 is what comes stock on a 4.2 A6. I wonder how they get it to clear the front suspension.

Default Re: Man, you know Jersey will do your wheels in.

what is wrong with the roads in Jersey? I live in south jersey and have no problems. It is PA that really hurts. I did go to college near Rt. 18 and found the roads a bit different than S. Jersey.

Default Same problem - hit a pothole yesterday in Austin TX

I also now have a small bubble, will this happen on any 45 series tire or is this just a problem with the Bridgestones.
Godfrey 00 S4 Silver/Onyx

Default Only short term, you have a sidewall defect, makes the tire dangerous.

Default Any tire can have the problem, but the 040's have weak sidewalls, single ply, poor rubber..
