ahh the b7 rs4! Im glad you felt that way. Ive always felt the b7 rs4 had a sweet engine, but was ov
overrated when it came to people claiming its performance
not a fan of it

I drove a friends B7 RS4 for a day
Compared to my APR stage 3 avant, I felt the RS4 had more pull right off tip in, but flattened out around 3500 rpm, which is where my car takes off.
Speed wise there's no comparison, mine is faster all day long.
However, I was very impressed with the suspension and brakes on the RS4 stock. It had a little more roll than my car (H sports, Ohlins), but ultimate grip was pretty similar, while the ride in the RS4 was much better.
Interior is a win for the RS4. Totally quiet, no wind noise, rock solid, Nav, much better ergonomics, etc.
I want one, but will wait another 2-3 years and pick one up Audi Assured.

For sure, not knocking the rs4. The ride, grip and especially
the brakes are phenominal for off the show room floor, as they should be for that kind of cash. Interior was nice but it didn't dazzle by any means. maybe it was the black with aluminum trim that made it seem a little bland imo. my 2 pennies thats all

Here we go again......
I had built and owned one of the first truly highly modded stage 3+ B5 S4's around. When you took the cost of my new B5 S4 at $43,000 then added the cost of all the mods and labor to do everything, the bill came to just about $70,000. And that was in 2002-2003. So, $74,000 for the current new RS4 is really the same thing. Yes, the stage 3+ B5 S4 is faster in straight line, but not by much, and there is definitely a level of motor engineering finesse, sophistication and instant responsiveness with the normally aspirated motor that isn't there with the turbo motor. It is a totally different feel. Both have their pro's and cons. In the end, the B5 is a phenomenal modding platform, the RS4 is phenomenal out of the box. If you compare pricing of new vs. new, to build a B5 to perform and look like the an RS4, the cost is the same (or more if you did widebody conversion on the B5)
