Default Yet another AC question - kinda hard to explain

Ok so events were:

1) K04 install (battery disconnected for extended period of time)
2) AC stopped working
3) Recharged through low service line
4) voltage checks out
5) changed ECU H-box to M-box and recoded
6) no VAG codes at all in the system - 100% clean (knock on plastic keyboard)

Question is, there a chance the HVAC controller lost programming causing the car to forget it has AC?

Friend of mine said he saw it happen on a VW before.

Default it just blows warm air, but I do get air circulation

my friend climbed under and said it appeared everything was plugged in and he had voltage going to the AC compressor so I believe that means its plugged in as well

I just want to be 100% sure before spending $500 in labour to pull the bumper etc as you can imagine

no leaks in the system
