2014 S6 Engine Out of Time
I had a warning light come on a couple days last week that limited the RPMs to 4,000. This was after letting the car idle a few minutes. On Friday afternoon, I started it cold (on a cold day) after work and drove home, no warning light popped up. Saturday I took it in for diagnostic work and it's throwing advanced timing faults. They have been taking my engine apart since then and after testing today, they concluded the engine is out of time. They also opened up a technical assistance ticket with Audi. Does anyone have experience with this type of thing? I have owned the car two years, it only has 55,000 miles on it and has been meticulously maintained. In other words, this is a real kick in the nuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The V8T uses a timing chain, so it's pretty much impossible for it to skip a tooth. The only thing that springs to mind is that the chain stretched (unlikely with such low mileage), the chain guides/tensioners are worn (more likely but also not common on low-mileage motors), or there's a faulty sensor (my bet). Hope they can figure it out for you in short order.
