2019/2020 S6
This clip was posted by Dutch car magazine Autoweek and it seems to support the rumors that the next gen S6 will do with 2 cylinders less I'm also not a huge fan of the direction Audi is going with touchscreen MMI in the new A7/A8. I'll reserve final judgement until I can experience it in person, however I am disappointed from what I've seen so far. I feel like we need to either embrace the future and go full electric or some sort of performance-oriented hybrid or bring back the V8. There's still a chance the RS6/7 will get a V8 and there are rumors that Audi is considering bringing the next-gen RS6 to the US so there's still hope...

I'm all for the touchscreen.. scrolling endlessly through menus shouldn't be necessary

When does the new body S6 come out? I read someone where it’s usually a year after the A comes out. They say it takes a year for the S to be released.
Anyone heard different?

Engine stressed?
Despite the approximate equality of power with the V8, the 2.9 L V6 is likely to be more stressed than the V8, maybe with a higher failure rate and less longevity. I take heart that its also in some Porsche models. Also, a V6 has more issues with inherent smoothness that the V8 doesn't. Rumor has it that the RS6 will continue with a V8, which says a lot about the S6. Hello Mercedes?

8 cylinders
In principle, I agree. I've mainly owned V8 cars in the last 54 years. My play car is a Corvette convertible. But I need to carry 4 people in comfort occasionally, so a ponycar is out of the question. It looks like a Mercedes or maybe a Dodge for me, but the latter lacks sophistication if not power. Actually, I also prefer a naturally aspirated V8 for the linear power delivery and the lovely sound. Also, though 5 years is the most I've owned a car, repairs to the Audi are ridiculously expensive. For the cost of turbos, I can put a new crate engine in the Vette! A brake job is one-third the price of the Audi, even with new rotors and they stop at least as well, maybe better (granted the Vette weighs 1200 lbs less and has wider tires). I was waiting for the new S6, as overall I am satisfied with the Audi experience, but I continue to question the wisdom of a V6. I wouldn't tune a street car as it makes no sense to me but, as has been noted, there will probably be less tuning headroom with the V6. I will start to look around in a month or three.

The 6 cylinder haters need to go drive a new Panamera S 4. That is the engine that is speculated to make its way into the next gen S6/S7. It is a fantastic engine and you would be hard pressed to think it is a 6 if you were not told.
