Default Check engine light after refueling

Anyone see their CEL come on after getting gas?

I always use 93 so wasn't a mistake or anything. It's happened twice in a year for my 2014.

Default You sure gas cap is closed?

loosen it and then re tighten. You should always fuel with engine not running. Have codes pulled, that should tell you, no one can outguess OBD!

Agree with Steve and make sure your fuel cap is on and tight and never fuel up with car running.

+1...The CEL comes on if the gas cap is not sealed tight alerting you of vapor escaping into the environment. Always make sure you tighten it until it clicks. As suggested if you read the OBD codes it will give you more specifics like whether it's the gas cap or something else.

Computer doesn't know if it's the cap or something else; just that there's a leak... but you always start with the gas cap. On emissions states, part of the annual vehicle inspection is checking the gas cap. If you suspect it, it's cheap enough to try that route first, but it might be covered by the emissions warranty. If the culprit is the EVAP valve/canister, then for sure get it replaced under that warranty, which it's typically 8 to 10 years or 100K miles (check your warranty booklet). Good luck.
