Downpipes decision, appreciate input
hello all, I know that I am posting in the S6 forum but I am in the minority modding my A8 4.0 and I wanted some feedback about going Stage two with this car. I am at Stage one APR, muffler delete and really like the way the car performs and sounds. I read of many S6 owners doing the downpipes and liking both the sound and the performance increase. Can I get your opinions on whether I should do this mod or not?
The car already rips a 3.565 0-60, it’s not so much about the speed for me, will it
1. Increase responsiveness at initial tip in?
2. Is the sound really that great?
3. Worth doing from a cost benefit basis?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Well, sadly all I own is a 2.0T Q5 that I cannot mod, But if it were me, I would be using an APR Stage 2+ tune with a full turbo back exhaust. (plus any other little goodies) I mean go for it! I would love to see this turn into a little build.

You say " Worth doing from a cost benefit basis?". Only you can answer this. Your machine is probably pumping out 550whp, 625 lb-ft of torque. Its insanely quick for a 4300 lb machine. Down-pipes add maybe 25 hp to the equation and will add a slight 'sound factor' but you'll need to hear it from somewhere to make any informed decision. Milltek is the go-to exhaust provider and they don't have downpipes or an exhaust for an A8. You'll need to do the research. If $$$ is no object then you probably need to find a fabricator to make and fit them and it may open a can of worms. In the end it is on you.

Downpipes on the turbo S6 4.0T seems to free up the exhaust side of the turbo, so it spools faster, providing more low end torque. This helps the street feel, more than the total HP.

Thanks!
Thanks for the graphs! I'm glad people have chief in on this. Yes the car already is fast, sounds great, handles pretty well for a big car. In the end I think between the 2,000 initial cost plus install I am really rethinking this. I absolutely love the car, I did just spend 3,700 on wheels and tires!
