New S6: Audicare Extended warranty and Wheel Protection opinions
#11
I would only be looking at a tire/wheel coverage plan. I had one on my last 911 and it was fantastic. Got it through the dealer and they handled every claim. In three years I replaced 4 rear and 2 front tires due to nails and other foreign objects causing leaks. The dealer took my car, gave me a loaner, ordered the new tire and called be when the car was ready. Never a penny out of pocket. The plan was about $1000 for 4 years of coverage and a single 911 rear tire is over $400 before you ship it and mount/balance it. In this case I am pretty sure that I got the best of the insurance company.

Where do you get data that the S6 "falls apart" after 50K? I guess the economic utility of a wheel and tire policy depends a lot on where you live and how you drive. My brother in law has 125K miles on his 2013 S6 but I only have 40K miles, Neither of us have had major out of pocket expenses for repairs,

Let's start with I didn't say 'falls apart', so if you're going to quote something, quote it right. I said 'start falling apart', which is very different. And that's exactly what happens with a lot of cars with either PCV failures, turbo failures, or both. Granted, that doesn't happen to all cars, but with my luck, mine would surely be one of them. And due to the insane cost of either issue, to me, it's not worth keeping out of warranty. And I didn't touch on any of the myriad electronic issues, mainly with the MMI. Air suspension is another potential headache, since many issues have been reported starting at that mileage. This is not what I'd call a reliable car, but you can arrive at your own conclusions.

I interpreted your statement, "I was thinking of keeping the car up to 50K, which is when they start falling apart, but that'd mean..", to mean that the car begins to fall apart after 50K and the implication was clear to me that you thought the Audi S6 was worse than other cars. Consumers Reports has the A6 as better than average or average in repair, though its not nearly as complicated as the S6, so I was wondering where your data came from. If you mean all cars start falling apart after 50K, that is likely true, but some cars do it faster than others. The S6 is a fast car, but I'm not sure if that's true with regard to failures. I think the forum tends to highlight failures as its a place to discuss them. My S6 has 40K miles and I want to keep it until about 55K - 60K, a year after the new S6 is available, though I could buy something else. I think an SQ7 (if made) or an Q8 (if made) would be cool. I have my fingers crossed, since my S6 has only had the usual turbo leak problems, fixed under warranty. Happy trails.
