I've heard other say that remote starters are illegal in Germany as a reason? I've also heard that we're lazy fat Americans.
Haha! Maybe both are true.
I had a factory remote start on my previous car and it was nice when I was leaving work to come home. I have a heated garage I keep at 55F, so it meant less to me in the morning, but is a nice feature to have.

That's correct, no remote start in Audis or any other German cars. Idling your engine is indeed illegal in Europe, not just Germany. Even if you are sitting in it. It's all in the name of less pollution. It's also illegal in various municipalities throughout the USA. There was a story recently that took the Internet by storm about a guy who got a $128 ticket in Michigan for leaving his car idling unattended in his driveway.

AFAIK for MB it is offered via the mbrace telematics in the US. So it can easily be software disabled for other countries.
Really Audi just needs to step up its telematics game as even Jeep can remote star via iPhone. Remote start is just not that important to me.

It's one of those features that when you get use to, you still want it.
In Florida it's 95 degrees, and the interior of the car gets up to 130+ degrees.
The remote start is a great feature to get that AC going.

Using vagcom or the Carista app you can enable the windows convenience open/close feature, then you can open all the windows/sunroof via the remote as you walk up to the car and let the hot air escape naturally.

The whole remote start thing as a reason for not having it because of German laws is a bunch of BS! Love my S6 but am pissed that it doesn't have remote start. All of my cars have had it for years.
My car is garaged as well but when your out and getting into a cold/hot car it sucks! When I bought the car I just assumed it did. Audi knows what cars they are sending across the pond. Code the key for U.S. Cars that are being built to have remote start! Find it amazing that one can buy an S6,S7,S8 or an R8 and there's no remote start. My old 08 Impala SS had it and most American cars today have it as well.
This one feature missing gets me aggravated. I know I can get it added but it's another FOB to carry and I've heard where it could possibly screw up a ones warranty.
