S6 (C7) brake pad & caliper - where to buy
I finally wore down my front breaks (at 30k miles). What's the best place to buy the pads & calipers (and sensor) to have an indy shop install them? I'm trading (or selling) the car soon, but I don't want to give anyone a car with worn breaks anyway, so I think i'll have to bite the bullet and replace them.

You don't need to replace the caliper, since it's the big black thing that fits over the rotor (which holds and squeezes the brake pads). I bought pads, shims and sensor from a dealer but others have found aftermarket pads that work. The job isn't that hard to do yourself with basic hand tools. There's a DIY thread in this section.

Thanks for the info! How much did the dealer charge you? My dealer said I need rotors since the breakpad was so worn down - any truth to that? I'm being quoted $2k for parts & service for JUST the front brakes/rotors. Seems pricey, but I got a similar price at another audi dealership too.

I'm in Canada, so the amount I paid won't really apply to you. Have a look at my DIY thread here, as it has some pricing information. If you allowed the brake pads to wear down to the backing plates, then your rotors are likely scored and will either need to be turned or replaced. If you're not at that point, then there's a good chance that they'll be fine to re-use. Mine were well within spec, but it's best to measure yours to be sure.

Sounds about right then. They are quoting 4h of labor (which is $700) + tax. Some good savings if I buy it myself and have an indy shop install though, right?

It's not possible, as it's a closed monobloc caliper design (i.e. no removable bridge to facilitate quick pad changes, a feature of many race-oriented calipers). Even current Porsche GT cars suffer from the same limitation, even though they are warrantied for track use.
