Radar Detector Recommendations for my '16 S6
I've had my S6 for about 5 months now. i love it. I'm now starting to think about radar detectors as I may be starting travel more. So far Ive been using Waze and to find local cops its been pretty good. I need some radar/laser detection recommendations now. Any recommendations as to what wold me my best options are appreciated. I'd love a built in system but I don't think there is likely anywhere within an hour of me that does those (I'm in Winston-Salem, NC).

I have a Passport 8500 which worked great in my previous car, but the placement of the lighter outlet in the S6 makes it very inconvenient to mount on the windshield.
Seeing as I just got a speeding ticket thats gonna cost dearly - I am motivated to understand my options as well.

Ive been using a V1 forever. Hardwire and just move from car to car. Very easy to install.
That being said, theres not a moment if driving smart that you need a radar detector(unless driving alone on the road). Just watch brake lights ahead of you all the time and you will be fine. Put the money towards mods.

Brake lights don't work always, esp with laser. I'm very happy with my K40 system (306i with two laser diffusers in front) on my '16 S6. It is totally stealth with only two LEDs on the inside to install and only if you know it is there can you actually tell a radar/laser system is installed. System works by wireless remote control. I have front and rear radar detection and two laser diffusers installed in front. Before hacking and chopping your vehicle to install the 9500 ci make sure you do your homework on the K40. You can also call them and talk to one of their sales reps. The customer service is second to none. I am more than satisfied and have spared my vehicle from internal mods that will make resale more difficult. When I say stealth, I mean no one can tell I have it installed save the laser diffusers in front, but they are buried deep in the grille. Absolutely love it!!!

I guess it all depends on where you live. Ive only been hit with laser once in my life and that was back in 2000 in MA. I have never been hit with laser here in NJ or PA.

Valentine V1...
In my RS5, I have it hardwired to the VAG port as that is an option for the V1. I have used others and in fact have a new Escort SOLO 3 that I put in my wife's car and take for rentals. Around town and in urban landscapes, all detectors are plagued by some number of false alarms.. Where I need detection is on on our weekend canyon runs of 100+ miles through the National Forests. The roads are nearly deserted, and enforcement spotty, but the V1 has saved my bacon so many times….
The nice part about Valentine is that they will do continuous upgrades which I have done to a ten year old unit that lives in another car. The V1 website is very helpful in sorting out the quirks with new cars.. for instance, the Audi lane detection system drives the V1 (and others) nuts. V1 has a patch that puts a filter at the specific frequency of that band. You program it from the dial interface. It interfaces well with my iPhone.

I've used various radar detectors for years including the over rated and outdated Valentine.
Best of the bunch is the hard wired Escort Passport 9500CI. Used that on my RS4 and three different Q5's including my current SQ5. The 9500CI has performed flawlessly from each of the initial installations and I have not received one speeding ticket! Be sure to get the laser shifters. Its pricy but it definitely pays for itself! Undetectable to police agencies as well.

I considered the passport 9500 ci and decided against it because of so much cutting in and modification of the panels to get it installed flush in the dash. After spending $80K on my car I was horrified by that idea. Also, the passport works no better than the K40, in fact, the k40 has silent ride which mutes all signals below a speed you determine and can mute bands to avoid false alarms. The unit also has laser diffusers that send error signals to the police so they don't know you are jamming them, which is different from other built in jammers that can betray you and inform police that you have a jammer. Finally, and this is most important, K40 is so confident about their system that if you get a speeding ticket while using their unit, they will pay it for you. No other company has that guarantee. How can you beat that?
