Default Reduce Oil Level?

Was driving the other day and decided to check out the service computer in the MMI. On the Oil Level page the system showed the Oil at Max level, but there was a line saying "Please reduce oil level."

Should I be concerned, and/or take the car to the dealer about this?

Who did the most recent oil change? When?

I've seen this warning under two scenarios:
  • Oil was recently changed, level is OK
  • Oil IS over-filled and needs to be adjusted

Oil was changed shortly before 5000 miles by the dealer.

Car currently at 7500 miles or so.

I had that with my first S6. They said there was extra oil on the cap messing with the sensor. Once I got the oil changed at the 5k mark though it went away.

My thinking is that theres too much oil in there.

So, you've traveled 2500 miles and this warning is just appearing??

I got the same warning after my first service. It was not there right after the service, but when I checked 1000 miles later the system said to remove oil. I brought it in and the removed a small amount of oil to resolve the issue.

Audis used to be famous for using oil, now they generate it. Too bad they can't use the same process in the gas tank.

Seriously, being overfull can have repurcussions. Take it to the dealer and have them remove some (they use a suction apparatus and it shouldn't take long).

Yeah, I'd do the same. They'll have the dipstick tool and can let you know if there's a problem with the oil level sensor. If not, one would ask the question "why is my oil level rising?"

It's been my experience that you have to be significantly over-filled to see that DIS warning. 1qt or more...

Agree, unless he has the special hydraulic fracturing option.

In olden times, too much oil could have serious repercussions, but I speculate that Audi has this nailed down.
