Reliability with a tune
Hey guys, I'm looking at getting an S8 or A8 with the 4.0t, and likely would consider a tune. The number of people who have done so over in the D4 forums is a bit thin, so I thought I'd ask over here how many of you have had the 4.0t and tuned it. Any problems? Who did you use?

I have an EPL TCU & ECU stage 1 tune & run only 91 octane fuel. There are a lot of S6/S7 4.0T tuned cars. The EPL thread on Audi-zine is pretty active. I have had APR & GIAC tunes in the past with no issues.
The EPL FLASH can be done at home with the a laptop and the EPL cable.
Generally, I have not seen reliability issues with most tunes.

I had a APR Tune on my 2010 S4. I sold that car with 150,000 miles and the tune was on the car for 125,000 of those miles. Zero issues and the engine ran as new...no oil ever needed to be added between typical 10,000 mile oil changes.
I have had the APR tune on my S6 with 4.0 TFSI for 20,000 miles and other than transforming the engine into a total beast it is completely reliable and there are zero indications the engine is tuned from a daily driver perspective. If you go APR get the dongle...it's a game changer as you can change the tune while driving from their smart phone app and log data.
