Strangely S mode is better. It is more the downshift into 1st after the car has stopped. I think I may have figured it out. I was in individual and had the transmission in comfort and the sport diff in dynamic. I don't think it likes this combination. It was much smoother in each separate mode rather than individual.

I got 2 transmission over heating warnings, drive conservatively while on the highway yesterday. I am thinking it may be a sensor issue, it went away both times. I will have the dealer have a look next week. Incidentally, I have have been hearing a droning/humming noise around 50 mph lately. Not sure if it is related or just the tires. I will post my findings.

Car is back from service. They confirmed the warnings. Tested transmission and did a fluid check of quality and level. End result, working normally. The shifts are quicker and crisper though likely from reseting the adaptation. Humming noise is tires (Goodyear Eagle Sport All Season) and wheel bearings are fine.

The second Mechatronic unit and this time the S-tronic transmission failed at 89K miles. Transmission would not engage in drive or reverse. Diagnostics are being performed and they are sending someone out to look at the transmission. I will update once I know more. 1st unit failed after 43K miles and replacement unit failed after 46k miles.

WOW!!! Makes you wonder if they did replace the mechatronic with a new one or a rebuild? Sorry to hear that. Makes me want to trade my S6 in for a RS7 since I haven't heard any issues with ZF transmissions. Keep us posted!

The transmission will be replaced. Now waiting for it to arrive from Germany. I am told about 10 days. I don’t know if it’s the same or an updated version.

update: Transmission is finally replaced but they are now running into software update issues. The files sent from Audi were corrupt and now waiting for new ones. I may get the car back later this week.

Additional delay: TCM that came with the new transmission is apparently not compatible with the S6, and they need to exchange it with the original TCM. Im told end of week completion to exchange it and run tests.

That didn't take long! This is a common problem and it's AMAZING that is hasn't been a recall yet on Audi's end yet. I have made posts about it and I cringe every day I shift into R and D daily! Sorry about that but glad they took care of it for you! I guess they don't mind paying for the replacements. My sisters 2013 S5 cabrio isn't covered under warranty now and is very pricey to fix! I can't believe my 2018 S6 has the same trans and can still have this issue! Shame on Audi AG Love the car otherwise!
