Default Upgrade to S6 or stay with S3 Stage II

I'm currently on a 2015 S3 Prestige with APR + (stage 1). The little thing is a rocket but I have some considerable turbo lag.

I feel like I need to keep my S3 longer but was I am alos disappointed to find out that my APR + warranty will also expire with the New vehicle warranty at 50K miles, in despite the S3 was bought as a CPO.

In other words I am considering spending an additional $10K to upgrade to a preowned 2013 S6 or spend another $2200 on my S3 to upgrade to APR Stage II.

According to my calculations I would be getting an improvement in power to weight ratio of almost 20% by going with the S6 when compering to APR stage 1 on both cars. (7.95 vs 9.7 lbs/hp) No doubt S6 also a much nicer sedan.

Obviously my dilemma is in between spending the additional 10K to go to a nicer trim bur older model 2015 S3 to a 2013 S6. and whether you will still retain the nimbleness and agility of a smaller S3

Anyone has upgraded from an S3 and what are your thoughts on doing this?

Look into an used RS3 (5 cylinder, more torque) ~ $48,999

The 2013 S6 model year has some issues that later ones have less of, but 2013 to 2017 S6 have turbo oil supply screen & check valve issues. A failure can cost $12k.

Yes. RS3 is what I want but it is out of my budget for now.

I'm looking at something like this

Are the mechanical issues you mentioned more like after you do the APR tune or is this an issue on stock engine?

If you're looking at 2013's you should be able to pick one up for much less than 35k.. I just got out of my 2013 for a 2018 and I had PCV issues long before I owned the car. The PCV and turbo failures happen regardless if you're tuned or stock.

I came from a b8 S4, supercharged so the torque was instant. I miss being able to dart around in traffic but the S6 is MUCH more comfortable to sit in during traffic.. Are you hauling people in the back seat? if so, the S6 is awesome.. If not, the S3 with stage 2 would be the best bet if you aren't buying an extended warranty for the 2013.

The S6 is much more a highway cruiser while the S4/S3 are pocket rockets.. Tune an S6 and it will leave them in the dust but you'll need 1/2mi stretch to demonstrate that

What did you decide to do?

I've just switched from an 2016 S3 APR Stage 2 to a (presumably non-flashed) 2014 S6 with AWE Touring exhaust. Got a 4yr 50K warranty because of turbo screens. I haven't flashed the car yet, but will probably stick with APR. This car is a highway cruiser and definitely not the rocket that my S3 is, but I'm finding that I'm less tempted to drive this car flat out than I was the S3.

Just go with the JB4 and don't worry about your warranty. Plus get the same if not better power then the APR flash. Map 2 with 5 gallons of E85 blended in or just running 93 octane gets all 4 wheels spinning and good for 11's in the 1/4 mile. It's a no brainer!

Sorry for the late response. I still have my S3 decided I’m going to install Stage 2 until I can afford and Rs3.

Those larger sedans are definitely not my type. Maybe when I retire. Haha!!

Yeah, the RS5 SB is really more interesting.
