Default Potential buyer question....

Did any of you come from something smaller and sportier to the S7? I've always liked smaller more nimble cars, and not sure if I would regret buying a boat (albeit a fast boat!). I've had 3 hot rodded A4's, a modded Jetta, and currently a modded Beetle and used to drive a boat before those (LS400). Right now thinking a new M2, but wondering if a 1-2 year old S7 might be better at similar money. Thoughts? Can I thrash it around like a little car or would it not like that?

The short answer is...no, the S7 is not as nimble as the vehicles you mention. The S7 presents a different driving dynamic. Consider it a higher performing luxury sports sedan. But, it feels much lighter than it's 4500lb spec, especially when blasting along in sport mode. It's fun around town, a sleeper during red light racing. But, you'll find this car begs to be on the highway swallowing large amounts of asphalt.

I'd suggest driving one at your local dealer for the true picture.

Enjoy the ride

I sold my treasured '08 S6 (52k miles) and '15 S5 (7k miles) to buy a '16 S7. The S6 was a magnificent car - fast and comfortable. And dignified. The V-10 had a fabulous voice. The S5 with 6 MT, sport differential and adaptive suspension was a blast on the back roads with a great exhaust crackle. And they were as different as night and day!. The S5 is the small and nimble car you liked; the S6 was a wonderful beast. Notice that I gave up the S5 after only a year in order to buy the S7. I thrashed the S6 and I plan to thrash the S7 but when it comes to thrashing, S5 was best. BUT, I have no regrets about the S7. It is truly a wonderful car. Much depends on how much space you need inside the car.

I sold my S5 to buy the S7. The S5 was a great car, handled well and was pretty quick. The S7 is a beast! Lots of power/torque throughout the rev range. It is also a lot more comfortable. Two very different cars. I needed a bit more space and still wanted a fun car to drive. The S7 drives like a smaller car, but not a nimble as the S5. You need to go drive one....
