Rim guards
Sure enough I wasn't careful and I scraped a rim on my S7 on a curb last week. I need to have the rim repaired now but it was suggested to me to purchase "rim guards". Does anyone have experience with these? I was quoted $75 per wheel and I guess if it happens again you simply sacrifice the rim guard and replace that vs damaging the rim itself. They make them in various colors, But I am thinking to just match the rim and not have it stand out. Any opinions??

I searched the net and found two basic types. One is a solid ring and one is a piece of plastic that gets cut to fit. Both types are installed by removing the air from the tire and slipping them between the tire and rim. I also found the kits on eBay for less than $100.
I wouldn't use them and I wouldn't pay anyone $75 a wheel to have them installed if I did.
