Dash Cam Power Supply
Just installed a lukas dash cam into my A8, but can't find a switched live at the passenger fuse box side, all appear live with ignition switched off, so dash cam on all the time. Any ideas on where to get a switched supply? Boot/trunk is too far away btw.

Just put s online on/ switch on power cord. Or just leave on if parked outside and activate the motion feature.? Just a simple idea from my simple mind . Could just use the power switch on the unit itself. Seems like there's something in front that's switched. Keep looking. IMO I wouldn't be taping into anything

You can get a smart power supply that will shut off the camera if the battery drops to 11.8 volts.
Both of the times my dash cam videos have been useful to me were when the car was parked. Once was a theif, who is now in prison thanks to my video. The other was a hit and run accident while I was parked. My dash video got the license plate of the offending car, and I'm filing with his insurance instead of mine.
If my dash cam was not working while parked, it would not have been helpful to me yet.

That's s good idea. Mine has a motion detection feature too. I've just never really used it other than to test once. I guess I wanted one jic or on trips to fla. I can't stand anything on the dash, mirror or dangling wires.

I hard-wired my dash-cam into the overhead console, where both accessory (switched) and permanent power is avaiable. If you are not experienced drilling into plastics I do not recommend your Audi first. Watch YouTube videos "how to drill plastics", and do lots of learning on project boxes or other scraps of plastic.

Can you confirm the gps functions ok as I've just installed a BlackVue 650s at the top of my windscreen and i can't get a gps lock, it could be I've just mounted it too high
Thanks

Yes the GPS locks and tracks just fine. I originally had the camera higher on the windshield and the GPS also locked on there. The reason I lowered the mounting location a bit was because the mirror mount blocked a little of the wide angle camera view. I have had no problems with either a Garmin DashCam35 or the pictured Kenwood DRV-410. Both these model dashcams have the latest gen GPS chips which have outstanding sensitivity compared to earlier generation GPS chips. They ever acquire the satellites when the car is in my garage.
