Coolant leak help please....
So I found the leak but I don't know what this part is called......so I can't order one. I have searched for hours and I can't find anything. Please take a look and help. It is at the rear of the engine by the fire wall. It has two small coolant hoses one in and one out to the reservoir. Also has a quick connect hose to the driver side valve cover.
Can you tell me what it is???
2009 A8L, 4.2.
Thank you!

I am not sure if the plastic piece is included with the number 17 hose as seen in the illustration, but it is a start as I think that is a heater core hose I see in your pictures, I could be dead wrong though....

I don't think it is either......nothing in that diagram looks like what I'm dealing with.....
Why would a heater core need a line venting to it from th crank case valve cover? Also, no lines go from this unit, to the firewall.

The hose from the top of the coolant expansion tank connected directy to a nipple on the top of this part......that nipple is what broke off and left that hole.

And that is number 3...
Did you read the link about the oil leak where the poster stated that he broke the coolant nipple, the plastic union "#3" has vacuum lines plus coolant lines to and through it.

Also forget about my first post "heater hose" as I said "I could be dead wrong", after looking over your pictures again and going to Jim Ellis site I found number 3 which I then searched the part number on Google and came up with quite a few, plus the AW thread.

I think you are correct and I really appreciate it. I'll take another look this morning to be sure but it almost has to be #3 although that is a larger piece than what is broken and it must come only as the entire unit. I'll double check and post again.

"Union" coolant pipe between throttle body and intake manifold.
Thank you so much for your help! You have directed me to the right piece, however, the part number and the diagram listed do not match what is appropriate for my vehicle. That is where the confusion lies. I found out today from the dealer that from 2008 forward the piece was changed and looks quite different from the one in the diagram above....... it it is still called the "union" and that info helped me find it! Thank you again!
