Default Allroad Review In C&D

In the May issue of C&D there is a review of the new Allroad. The review isn't on their website yet, so no link. No surprise, but overall a positive review.

Their recap:

+ Improved Quattro capability, as quick as the A4 sedan, brilliant transmission.

- Cough-up-the-dough sticker, A4 on Xanax handling.

It happens to be a great issue - and they also review/compare the A6 with the MB and BMW.
As for the 2 page review - this sums it up nicely.

By virtually every measure, Audi's Allroad is the best performing tall wagon sold in America.

But we guys knew that already.....

With the new Audi, MB E400 and Volvo V90 it sure is a sweet time to be a station wagon lover. And look....today even Buick joined in with a pretty interesting offering. Is it the wagon comeback of the century?

I am pleased to see lots of long roof offerings, as opposed to just SUVs. Interesting that Buick popped that surprise.

Just thought I'd kick this back to the top since the review finally hit the online C&D site two days ago.

the (xanax) handling issue becomes a moot point if you ditch the mediocre all-seasons for summer performance tires (which I did). just be prepared to have a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels if you do so.

additionally the june 2017 car and driver reviewed the 2018 q5 (pg 106) and stated the Q5 is: "not as quick as an A4 allroad, which also stops shorter, grips harder, goes further on a gallon of gas, and has a cargo hold only 2.6 cubic feet smaller (behind the rear seat)."

and additionally stated the negative feature of the Q5 is that "the A4 allroad exists".

Never felt the AR had Xanax handling, especially in Dynamic and/or Sport mode, but again, its a wagon, not a sports car and should not be held to that standard. But then again, all the mags have an understandable preference for the handling dynamics over function.
