Trunk Open and Close Remotely
I upgraded my trunk motor to the H metal bodied one and it started working as it was designed to with no mods to the hinge or internal clutch.
I then added a relay to have remote trunk open and close from inside car and with remote. Nice feature.
New used and old plastic motor
Soldering wires to relay. Added a diode to the relay coil to prevent backfeed to latch circuit
Heat shrink wiring
No cutting of factory harness.
Friction fit the wire into the connector and zip tied
Connected at latch and to center wires of push button.
Secured relay to prevent rattling

Has anyone done a writeup/instructions on this key/relay mod? Looks like a cool thing to do. Plus that H motor in the video...the trunk opens and closes with authority...I need to get one of those.

Find a Bosch relay or any automotive relay with 4-5 pins.
Most have numbering on the pins.
Basically you are using the trunk LATCH wires to activate the TRUNK open button
85 - Ground for relay coil - Brown wire on LATCH
86 - Positive 12V for coil - Green wire on LATCH
30 - Common contact of relay -Inside Brown wire on Trunk Button
87 - Normally OPEN contact of relay - Inside Green wire on Trunk Button
(the white striped wire on the latch is to let the car know the trunk is closed, we don't connect anything to this wire)
When 12v is applied to 86, and 85 is grounded the relay activates and internally connects pins 30 to pin 87.

+1 on the H motor. After years of dinking around with this issue, the trunk finally works as it should have from day one. I have tried replacing the "bent" passenger hinge, lubricated the hinges, tried the spring fix in the left corner, tried replacing the struts. Considered the solder paste or sanding wheel solutions. No combination of these really solved the problem. The best I could get was that I always had to "help" the trunk open and close, and it always seemed to me that the motor didn't have quite enough torque.
I was lucky enough to find an H motor on ebay at the staggering price of $31 plus $33 shipping. $64 delivered. It was not guaranteed to work, but other than the motor itself, what can go wrong with these? It's a magnetic clutch - no physical contact. So I opened it up, cleaned all the surfaces, lubed the plastic bearings surfaces and gears, buttoned it up and put it in the car. Works like a charm. I also used HHS-V on the hinges - that made trunk operation almost silent.
Next step is this relay mod.
