Default Steerng Wheel Voice Button Does Not Work With Android Auto

Hello, so after watching this video

I'm lead to believe that by clicking the voice button on the steering wheel, i can activate google voice on android auto. However, it only kicks off the voice command for MMI. Is this video inaccurate or is there something i need to do with my car?

You need to press and hold it for a second or two. A short press will activate the MMI.

You can also just say "OK Google / Hey Google" now. No button press needed!

Yep. I've been doing that as well but sometimes the push of the button is a bit easier. Plus, I wanted to make sure that button on my steering actually had a purpose for me. Really enjoy the Android Auto. More than I thought

Me too. I've found the MMI to be pretty clunky in comparison. I'm looking forward to Waze being added to AA.

Me too. While Audi's Google Earth implementation looks pretty nice, I find AA maps and everything else that comes with AA more useful. I just wish we could get them on the VC

If Android Auto was available on VC, i would have definitely gone with that option. Couldn't justify the additional cost when AA does so much of it + subscription price of keeping it going

By the way, one is able to keep the maps and Google Earth displayed on the VC (rather than the compass) while using AA navigation . The secret is to first start navigating to a destination using the MMI. Then navigate to a destination using AA. The navigation will transfer over to AA, but the map will remain on the VC. This is nice, because one can still see traffic, POIs, Google Earth and zoom in and out on the VC even though AA is doing the navigating.
