Default Engine - Why did Audi

Hi Guys,

Why did Audi use the Supercharged 3.0 engine instead of the newer Turbocharged 3.0 engine.

Does the Supercharged engine have an advantage for this size vehicle?

Thanks,

Geoff

My understanding is that a supercharged engine has less lag. But who knows, they may change at some point

This is true. I don't know really, just another mystery like why there is a Owner's Manual option in MMI with no actual manual to be found...

Most likely the turbo engine was available in time for the 4M's release. I suspect the sc version will be replaced for MY19.

Likely because your dealer didn't install it.

The turbo 3.0 came out quite a bit after the Q7. First car to introduce this new engine is the all-new 2018 S4. The Q7 will probably get it at the mid-cycle refresh.

Mine came with the manual and a few other booklets in a pouch/case

I'm sorry that Audi is replacing the supercharged V6 with a twin turbo V6 in new models.

I had a 2001 A6 with the 2.7 twin turbo V6. It was a great engine, but I could feel the turbo lag. My current 3 cars all have the 3.0 Supercharged engine which has zero lag. When I press the go petal it goes, specially when the transmission is in sport mode or I use the paddles to downshift.

I too had a turbo. Totally agree.

I've been out driving the Q7 on and off all day, and have to say that the 3.0 is a beauty! Linear power, no hesitation, just quietly purrs along with plenty of power to spare. Feels good even in Comfort mode, and great in Sport!! Excellent engine!
