B8 A5 V6: Oil leak from car onto ground- dealer says upper timing chain covers
Hi Everyone,
I have an Audi A5, 2009. It has 65K miles on it (I know, I baby it and only drive/to from work, pick up kids). A few weeks ago I started noticing oil leaks about 3-4 inches in diameter. I took it to the dealer and they said they would need to seal the upper timing chain covers. How does oil leak from the upper timing chain covers? I'm not familiar with these as my last vehicle was a truck and the timing chain didn't have covers...
Many, many thanks for any info!

Although you posted on the wrong forum for your A5 (this site is for the C6 A6), and you have a 3.2L V6, the timing chain covers are located on the backside of each head. They are sealed using a liquid sealant, so if a bolt(s) came loose or someone tried to remove a cover, the seal could have been compromised and then leak oil.

It may be ez but I'll bet dealer gets $200 or more. 😆
Point is that you might try doing it yourself although I appreciate the dealer is already into you for the diagnostic charge....🤑
