Default MMI App - can't remote start?

I just got the MMI iPhone app set up. There's no remote start available?

Whoa... and no remote start from the key either?

I can't find it in the manual - and can't believe that on a $50k automobile, I won't be able to warm it up in my driveway this winter?

Sorry, but you'll have to downgrade to a Chevy Cruse in order to get remote start.... I heard it wasn't included on Audi vehicles because it is illegal to let a vehicle run without the presence of a driver, and also for liability reasons. Lame excuses for us in North America, but it is what it is. I've, sadly, gotten used to going out in -40 degree weather to start my car and let it warm up...

There are aftermarket remote start installers. Look at youtube and search for audi Q5 remote start. I saw at least two vendors. One might be in NY. You can find one to do aftermarket work if you are so inclined.

I think if you look at the laws they say that you cannot leave a car running WITH the key or fob in the car unattended. The law is there to prevent easy theft of a running car.

In the case of a remote start, the key or fob is not with the car, and even if someone were to break into the running car, it could not be moved without the key or fob in the car. That is why there are currently a lot of car manufacturers who offer this feature in the US where the car must be locked first and the key or fob has to be outside the car for remote start to activate.

With that said, it is my understanding that Audi has never offered a remote start on any of their cars, and it doesn't seem like they have any plans in the near future to implement it.
