AudiCare and Wiper Replacements
I have an A6, but my wife has a 14' Q5. The Q5 is still under its original warranty at 45k miles and I have AudiCare for it. I brought it into the dealer's service department for the 45k miles maintenance yesterday, which is the last service covered, and was told that I needed a rear wiper, which I already knew as it had been scraping the glass back there for some time. They replaced the wiper, but charged me $20 for the part. Does this sound right? The 45k mile maintenance is supposed to cover ("check and replace") wipers, but the service advisor tells me that this doesn't include the part itself. Can anyone confirm that this is true? Now $20 isn't a lot, but I'm curious if this is legit..

That is definitely a wear item like brakes and not covered under warranty. However, if your wiper was not performing or the brakes were warped at only 1000 miles or perhaps one month, they would likely be replaced under warranty as the result of having a factory defect.

The Audicare brochure has a footnote on the replacement of wipers that "Replacement parts and labor additional [cost]".
I have Audicare and have always bought and replaced my wiper blades when needed.

I was wondering the same thing. The other day my wife's Mercedes sent in for scheduled maintenance. They apparently replace all wipers during the service included in the Mercedes prepaid service. Too bad Audi does not do the same...

okay, thanks everyone. I also needed to know because I was considering extending AudiCare (for the 55k and 65k maintenances) for this vehicle and wanted to know what was included. So aside from the oil changes, it seems that all they do is check a bunch of stuff. It seems not worth the $410 (combined $820) for each of the two services it would cover.

55,000 miles
- oil and filter change
- 3.0T spark plug change
- 3.0T front supercharger belt
- engine air filter
- cabin air filter
65,000 miles
- oil and filter change
- brake fluid change (every 2 years)
The 55k mi is major for the 3.0T with spark plugs and supercharger belt. Audi Care Select may be an ok deal if you want your work done by the dealer but if you can DIY you'll save a lot.
I just did the 55k on my 2.0T myself and here are the parts prices (all OEM):
- Oil filter $9.35
- Castrol Edge Euro Formula 0W-40 5 qt $22.97 (used 4.9 qt)
- Air filter $19.76
- Cabin air filter $33.44
- Wiper blades $36.48 Part 4G1-998-002-A to get a pair of wipers
- Brake fluid by an independent mechanic shop for $120
- oil and filter change
