Default Sold the Miata, let's go awd VAG shopping!!

Option 1: new 2018 Golf R
Pros: new 7 speed DSG!
Cons: paying MSRP maybe $43k?

Option 2: Certified 2016 TT with under 7500 miles
Pros: warranty, 38k-$40k, driving position, $, lots to choose from
Cons: AWE downpipe $1250, APR CAI $600? JB4 $475?, MSS adjustable springs $995 + installation approx $900
tt about $4200
wife mod $ arguments

Option 3: Certified 2016 TTs
Pros: if you have to ask yada etc, limited mod money needed to get it where I'd want it. Many available.
Cons: a few thou over my self imposed ceiling of $45K and absolutely no others

Option 4: New 2017 Glacier White black optic TT $46.2k + about $4200 in mods
Pro: I think this particular example is ****ing gorgeous. New cars are fun to buy.
Cons:3-4K more than a cert TTs, that's just silly.

Option 5: New 2017 Golf R leftover Limestone Gray $39k
Pros: so cheap I'd drive it and park it with reckless abandon. new car fun.
Cons: another hatchback, really dude?

I don't need the hatchback although I appreciate the utility but I prefer the driving position of the TT. I think the best value is the 2018 R, but I think the coolest car by a wide margin is the TTs. These are the 2 I'm most interested in.

Share your cross shopping thoughts and why you chose the car you drive.

Cheers,
Rick

After evaluating this decision until I was almost sick of it, you can see what I went with.

Although the Golf R is a well reviewed fun ride, I could not handle the boring looks and cheaper interior.

In Canada we get the S line option which you do not have, that solved some issues for me.
I personally do not care for the base TT nose, and the standard suspension worried me.

If I were in the US I would go TTS, based on your list and $$ concerns... Option #3.

Good Luck!

That's funny about dissing the R interior. Coming from a base Miata daily driver, the R interior is so nice I don't feel deserving lol
That said the TT crushes the R.

Do you get attention from 5-0 in your TTs? R owners are enjoying the annonminity.

That is one of the key issues.

I used this thought process:

"If you don't look back at your car after you park it, you've bought the wrong car."

I knew I would have bought the wrong car if I went for the Golf.

I love this. Cause it's true. I know this, if I buy a TT, I won't pine for a R. The opposite is not true. This thought is directing me towards the TT. And the tuned Miata ALWAYS got the glance.

isn't the golf r FWD?

either way, get the TT. ur gonna love it. super nice simplistic interior, virtual cockpit, decent power ( with stage 2 + ull be as fast or faster than a TT ), its better in every way actually.
