Distance to Empty and SQ5 fuel consumption
I gassed up yesterday and as I approached work (generally downhill from 1500' to 600'asl) I noticed that my Distance to Empty was up at 930km (578 miles) having already covered 56km. On my way home last night it stayed at 930km until I climbed the last steeper 600' up the escarpment when it dropped to 920km. By this time I had driven just over 100km.
Average fuel consumption according to the MMI was 7.2l/100km (32.72mpg US/39.14mpg Imperial)
The DTE is usually way off for the first half tank and averages itself out over the second half, but this seemed a bit extreme. Yes this is a gasoline SQ5!

I've noticed that my DTE will sit there without changing until the gas gauge comes off the top peg, about 100 miles for me. After that it drops faster than it really should.
In my experience with the Audi MMI (over the last 9 months) is that it is close to worthless for accuracy. It is always 1 MPG higher than actual (or worse). The instantaneous display is a joke. And I track each tank with the Fuelly app on my phone. My past VW displays were far more accurate, and once I tweaked them with VCDS they were almost dead on. Tried tweaking the Audi with no success.

Tinpusher sounds like your either in Bc.or Ab.given your altitude changes.SQ5 must be a blast in the mountains.I took my Tdi out to Bc.last year and must admit to having a bit of fun.
I've tracked my consumption for 148 fillups with Fuelly and my MMI number is about 5% optimistic.I could get it smack on with VCDS but haven't bothered.I like the positive feedback even if it's "fake news".
I have a pic. I took of my speedo running 160kph between Regina and Medicine Hat avg.mpg imp.48.What a blast !

I agree there's always that over-optimistic reporting with these systems but you'll always have plenty left when it finally gets to 0.

I have found that miles to empty indicators on BMW's and Merc's seemed to be programmed this way as well. Feels like it might have to do with some market research that indicates that such programming makes people feel they are getting better mileage.
That said my 2015 Q5 TDI, and 2016 SQ5 have pushed it to an extreme. Both show highly optimistic readings for the first 1/2 tank of use then drop off very rapidly.

I believe the DTE is based solely on the position of the fuel gauge indication. I've driven 100 miles since I filled it, and the DTE has gone from 470 to 495. Absurd. The gauge will start moving soon, and then the DTE will plummet. My real world full tank distance is between 400 and 440 miles, depending on the amount of highway use, typically about 50%. Right now it says I would go about 590. Not likely!
